Indian opener Murali Vijay, who made a terrific comeback to the Test squad in the recently concluded Test series against Sri Lanka feels that this current Indian team can overturn their records in South Africa when they visit the rainbow nation next month. Notably, India has never managed to win a series in the six Test series they have played in South Africa so far.
The cricketer from Tamil Nadu, Murali Vijay, while talking to India Today admitted that the current team lead by young Virat Kohli is well equipped to perform well in the overseas tours; however, for that, the cricketers need to adjust fast to the conditions.
With India scheduled to play against South Africa, Australia, and England in the next 14 months, the stylish opener believes that the upcoming tour against the Proteas will be crucial to set the tone for the long overseas tours.
“It is going to be very important for us. If you think about short-term goals then yes, this series is very important for us to start. I personally think we are well equipped to do well. As I said, we’ve got to go there, get used to the conditions really fast and find a way to perform,” he was quoted saying to India Today.
India is scheduled to play three Tests followed by six ODIs, and three T20Is during their month-long tour to South Africa with the first Test scheduled to start from January 5 at Newlands in Cape Town.
Virat Kohli’s side has enjoyed a dream run of late with the team winning nine Test series on the trot under his leadership. But, their real test, many believe, will begin only now when they play overseas.
