Mumbai have announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy. Aditya Tare has been retained as the captain while Dhawal Kulkarni will continue to assist him. The team will miss out on the services of Shreyas Iyer and Shardul Thakur, both of whom are with the Indian team in South Africa.

Though Iyer can be later named in the team if Mumbai reaches the next round, as he was dropped from the T20I side for the South Africa series and will return to India after the completion of ODI series. On the other hand, Shardul will miss the full tournament, as he received his maiden T20I callup.

Mumbai, just like Delhi, hasn’t named their World Cup-bound player, Prithvi Shaw. He is currently playing the U19 World, the final of which will be played on Saturday (February 3).

Though his name is not on the list, he can be added to the squad once he returns from the World Cup. Bengal though has named Ishan Porel in the squad, who will have a late arrival in the camp.

Mumbai side includes Suryakumar Yadav, Jay Bista, Akhil Herwadkar and Siddhesh Lad. Shashank Singh has also been called to the One-Day side. Both Bista and Shashank played their last List A game way back in 2015.

Mumbai haven’t had a good season till now, as after losing the quarterfinal of Ranji Trophy 2017/18, they also failed to make it to the finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and it’s the last chance for them to end the season on a high. The CAC of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has already held a meeting to find the reason behind Mumbai’s poor run this season.

If Mumbai team does not perform well in the tournament, one can surely see a new coach and a new captain for the next season.

Mumbai will kick off the tournament with the first game against Madhya Pradesh. The Aditya Tare-led side will then face Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Goa and Andhra Pradesh.

Mumbai had won the tournament twice way back in 2004/05 and 2005/06 season. It was last in 2011/12 when they played the final of the tournament before Bengal, riding on a century from Laxmi Ratan Shukla, defeated them at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi. It was also the last List A game that Sourav Ganguly played.

Squad: Aditya Tare (c), Dhawal Kulkarni (vc), SuryaKumar Yadav, Siddhesh Lad, Akhil Herwadkar, Jay Bista, Shivam Dube, Shashank Singh, Eknath Kerkar, Aakash Parkar, Dhrumil Matkar, Royston Dias, Shams Mulani, Shubham Ranjane, Shivam Malhotra.
