Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017/18: Prithvi Shaw Added to Mumbai Squad

India U-19 captain, Prithvi Shaw, has been added to the Mumbai squad for upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy. Surprisingly, his name was not there in the original 15-member squad and now has been added.
Shaw was the star for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2017/18, as he scored 537 runs in the tournament. He also scored three centuries and two half-centuries. Post the completion of Mumbai’s tourney in Ranji Trophy, Shaw joined the India U19 camp in Bengaluru.
Presently, Shaw is leading the India U19 squad in the Junior World Cup which is being played in New Zealand. The Indian team has qualified for the finals of the tournament and will face Australia in the finals on February 3, Saturday.
On the batting front, Shaw has done well and has scored 232 runs in four innings.
He was recently bought by Delhi Daredevils for an amount of Rs 1.20 Crore and will be joining his U19 teammates Manjot Kalra and Abhishek Sharma. Both of them were also purchased by Delhi Daredevils for an amount of Rs 20 Lakh and Rs 55 Lakh, respectively.
After returning from World Cup, Shaw will be joining the Mumbai camp and is expected to replace either of Akhil Herwadkar or Jay Bista at the top. He is also expected to play both, Deodhar Trophy and Irani Cup, as he is surely in contention for national selection; courtesy his form in the Ranji Trophy 2017/18.
Apart from Shaw, Mumbai will also miss the likes of Shardul Thakur and Shreyas Iyer. Shardul will not play any part in the tournament, as he has been selected in both ODI and T20I squad for the South Africa tour while Iyer can turn up for his stateside if Mumbai qualifies for the second round of the tournament, which starts on February 21.
The last ODI of the series between India and South Africa will be played on February 16.
Aditya Tare will continue to lead the team in the domestic season, whereas, Dhawal Kulkarni will assist him. Mumbai will face Madhya Pradesh in their opening contest.
