KL Rahul has been retained in the Karnataka squad for the tie against Haryana and Punjab, to be played on Saturday and Sunday respectively, at Karnataka State Cricket Association in Alur. He was earlier selected for the first two games but now is available for two more contests in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017-18.
The right-handed batsman, though, has just managed 25 runs in the two games of the tournament he has played in. Rahul opened the innings in the contests against Baroda and Assam.
In the first game, KL Rahul could just manage a score of three while in the second contest, he was dismissed on 22.
The tournament was a platform for him to score some runs and push for his selection in the ODI format too but he couldn’t do wonders. The game against Punjab would be the last opportunity for him to do well in the tournament.
KL Rahul will also not take part in the Deodhar Trophy due to overlapping scheduling as the domestic tournament starts on March 4 while the series tri-series in Sri Lanka kicks off on March 6. Rahul is a regular member of the T20I side and would be flying to Sri Lanka too.
Talking about Karnataka’s performance in the ongoing List A tournament, Karnataka is sitting at the top of the Group A table with two wins in as many games.
The state association has also announced squad for the last four league stage games of the tournament. The selectors have called in BR Sharath to replace an injured CM Gautam.
Karnataka will face Haryana (February 10), Punjab (February 11), Odisha (February 13) and Railways (February 16) in their next four league stage games.
Karnataka’s squad for last four games: R. Vinay Kumar (Capt), K.L. Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Karun Nair, R. Samarth, Pavan Deshpande, B.R. Sharath, K. Gowtham, Shreyas Gopal, A. Mithun, Prasidh Krishna, T. Pradeep, Anirudha Joshi, J. Suchith, Ritesh Bhatkal, Pravin Dubey.
