In a beautiful gesture, India cricket skipper Virat Kohli, on Saturday (June 2), came out in support of national football team captain Sunil Chhetri. The star batter urged the fans to flock to the stadia whenever the team plays.

Kohli took to his Twitter handle to support Chhetri and the football team as he requested the fans to watch the game in the stadium.

India is currently playing in the Four Nation International Cup. Chhetri and his men have made a bright start to the tournament by routing Chinese Taipei.

“The quote of what my good friend Sunil Chhetri posted some time back, I want to request everyone watch the football team play. Anyone who loves any kind of sport, go and cheer for the team in the stadium because they’re working hard and are a talented team. I’ve seen these players evolve over the last few seasons and they have got so much better at their games,” Kohli revealed in his post.

Kohli, who is one of the co-owners of Indian Super League (ISL) team FC Goa, further said that it would go down a long way for India to develop a sporting culture.

“This will also go down a long way in creating a sporting culture that is a vision for all of us and if we are to be called a proud sporting nation, we need to accept and respect all the sports equally,” he asserted.

“You may never know that your children might being playing sports as well and they might need support from people coming to watch them play. So have compassion, think how much it can contribute to the players, and in turn, contribute as they are representing our nation. We want to make this a collective sporting nation. Your contribution will be massive, so please go support and watch them play, I wish them all the best,” he added.

Earlier, Chhetri had taken to social media, requesting the fans to watch them play at the stadium whenever International matches are being played.

Virat Kohli, meanwhile, is currently recovering from a neck injury he sustained while playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The India batting star was due to play for Surrey this month but the injury dashed his hopes. He will undergo a fitness test on June 15.
