Virat Kohli Leads The Way As Cricket Fraternity Lauds PM Narendra Modi's 21-Day Lockdown Decision

Virat Kohli led the response from cricket fraternity as he and other eminent names from the game came out in support of the fresh guidelines issued by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop the coronavirus from spreading. PM Modi addressed the nation on Tuesday night as India try to combat the deadly spread of the pandemic.

In his latest address, PM Modi announced that the country will be under complete lockdown for next 21 days starting Tuesday midnight. Soon after the announcement, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, head coach Ravi Shastri, former spinner Anil Kumble and others started sending out social media posts encouraging Indians to support the move by staying indoors during the entire 21-day period.

Welcoming the move, Indian skipper Virat Kohli requested the fellow countrymen to “stay at home” for next 21 days as “social distancing is the only cure” available with us which can stop Covid-19 from spreading.

“As our Honourable Prime Minister, Shri @NarendraModi ji just announced, the whole country is going into a lockdown starting midnight today for the next 21 days. My request will remain the same, PLEASE STAY AT HOME. #SocialDistancing is the only cure for Covid 19”, Virat Kohli tweeted.

Shastri also welcomed the move, calling it the “absolute need of the hour”.

“No mincing words. Absolute need of the hour. Leadership at its very best. The country will come out stronger than ever before all-round @PMOIndia @narendramodi,” Shastri tweeted while sharing a link of PM Modi’s address to the nation.

“Simple things are often the hardest to do, because they require consistent discipline & determination. Hon‘ble PM @narendramodi ji has asked us to #StayHomeStaySafe for 21 days. This simple task can save millions of lives. Let’s all unite in this war against #COVID19,” wrote legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

 

Former India captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly tweeted: “Let’s fight this together .. we will get over this #corona”

Ashwin wrote: “3 weeks it is … let’s stay indoors India. I repeat the consequences of irresponsible community behaviour over the next 3 weeks could cost us 2 decades. Well done @narendramodi ji. Now let’s follow instructions rather than moaning and giving our own opinions. #coronavirusindia”

“Let us all unite in fighting corona virus by religiously practising 21 days lockdown. Stay at home and help your family with household chores and practise hobbies whilst practising social distancing. #StayHome #StaySafe #IndiaFightsCorona #IndiaStandTogether,” wrote Cheteshwar Pujara.

 

Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen also urged his Indian followers to adhere to the guidelines, tweeting:

Legendary VVS Laxman wrote: “Social distancing is extremely critical for each and everyone of us to follow for the next 21 days. Please stay at home & wash your hands regularly, and let’s break the chain. Please don’t panic about essentials, the central & state governments will ensure it #IndiaFightsCorona”

“Fully support the government’s decision to impose the #CoronavirusLockdown. Stop the virus from scoring big. Be your own captain! Spread the field. Practice Social Distancing and remember our PM’s advice #JaanHaiTohJahanHai #StayAtHomeSaveLives,” wrote Mohammad Kaif.
