Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are the most influential and leading batsmen of the Indian cricket team currently. Both have earned several accolades and proved their mettle to draw comparisons with some of the finest batsmen of all-time. However, former Pakistan batsman Mohammad Yousuf believes, the current crop of Indian cricketers cannot be compared to class of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid.

But consider this, every generation produces fine talents. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are finest of this generation. Kohli has already drawn comparison with the likes of Viv Richards and Sachin Tendulkar for being a record-breaking machine. Every generation of batsmen, face different set of bowlers. But the comparisons, however, vague will certainly remain.

‘Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma can’t be compared with their class’

Mohammad Yousuf has rivaled the Indian side which consisted the likes of Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh. He reckons, earlier the Indian team had at least 3-4 quality players but the current lot lack such talents. Yousuf also added, the current crop of players can’t be compared to the likes of Sachin Tendulkar or Rahul Dravid.

In the past, teams, such as India, Australia and South Africa, had 3-4 quality players in the side. India, for example, had players like (Rahul) Dravid, Sachin (Tendulkar), (Virender) Sehwag, (Sourav) Ganguly, (VVS) Laxman and Yuvraj Singh,” said Yousuf, who played as many as 90 Tests, 288 ODIs and three Twenty20 internationals (T20Is) for Pakistan was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

“These six batsmen were playing in a single team. The current Indian team does not have such batsmen. You can’t compare the current players (such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma) with the class of Sachin and Dravid,” he added.

Kohli and his deputy Rohit were last included the squad for the home series against South Africa. But after the first ODI was washed off in Dharmshala, the remainder of the series, was called off due to novel coronavirus pandemic. It remains to be seen, when they are next seen in action again, after the situation returns to normal.
