MS Dhoni groomed youngsters under his captaincy to bring out the best from them. It included the likes of Rohit Sharma, who started as a middle-order batsman after making his debut in 2007 and struggled during the initial phase of his career. It was only after MS Dhoni promoted him as an opener in 2013, Rohit Sharma started to show his best game in white-ball cricket.

As a result today, Rohit Sharma is the only batsman to hit three double centuries in white-ball cricket but also has stitched some key partnership with his various fellow opening batsmen to give the side a head start. At World Cup 2019, Rohit Sharma hit five centuries, and took the world by storm.

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir feels there are plenty of youngsters in national team today and senior members like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should take equal responsibility to groom them for the future.

Gautam Gambhir: I expect Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to groom the youngsters

Shubman Gill and Sanju Samson have proved their potential on the international circuit. Besides them, Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer are some fine young prospects in the side, who can better their game if properly groomed by Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma feels former India opener Gautam Gambhir.

“I hope the young cricketers in the current generation today, be it Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson, they also get similar kind of support. And now when Rohit is a senior, I expect him to give backing to youngsters. Rohit is a prime example of how a player can become a phenomenal cricketer, if he has good backing. One good thing about MS was that he always kept Rohit in the talks, even if was not part of the team, he was always part of the group. He never let him get sidelined,” Gautam Gambhir told in an interview on Sports Tak.

“I expect Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to groom the youngsters in the same way in which MS Dhoni groomed them,” he added.

Shreyas Iyer has nearly cemented his spot in the limited-overs format. But Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill are in the line of becoming the next being thing in the Indian cricket. Rishabh Pant has got his opportunities and continues to be backed by senior players while Sanju Samson has been in and out of side trying to find a permanent slot.
