India skipper Virat Kohli is the only player in the Indian Premier League who has played for a single team so far. He has been playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore since the inaugural season in 2008. Signed as a youngster by the franchise, Virat Kohli’s journey with the team has been really remarkable.
He is now the captain and the batting mainstay of the team. The way things are going on at the moment, it would not be very surprising if he goes on to play for the Bangalore-based franchise for many more years. Well, at least that is what Virat Kohli wants.
On Friday, Virat Kohli, while interacting with his IPL teammate AB de Villiers on Instagram, said that he cannot even think of leaving Royal Challengers Bangalore. Virat Kohli made it clear that no matter how the team performs, he will never leave the franchise. He was also quick to point out that he and his teammates are yet to achieve the ultimate dream for the franchise which is to win the tournament.
“It’s been 12 years and it’s such an amazing journey, so surreal. You have been here 9 years yourself. For a lot of people, it’s all about obviously we want to achieve the ultimate goal for RCB.
“We have come close thrice but haven’t made it. That’s always gonna be our dream together and I was just thinking there is no way in any scenario that I can ever think of leaving this team. Because of the love and care, the franchise has shown. You can feel emotional about the season going well or not but to have that loyalty with Bangalore, with RCB its quite surreal. Till the time I play IPL, regardless of how we play, I’ll never leave this team,” said Kohli.
If not for the pandemic, both Kohli and de Villiers would have been playing in IPL 2020. The thirteenth edition of the tournament was set to get underway on March 29 but the BCCI has suspended it indefinitely in the light of the pandemic.
