Kerela Kings won the inaugural T10 league organised in the UAE on Sunday. The league was successful in attracting a lot of balls and attention and was fairly a hit amongst the fans.
All the matches of the league were played in Sharjah and all the three days of the tournament were full to the capacity. The locals completely enjoyed the entertainment, as the bat dominated the ball throughout and saw some clear hitting by the batsmen.
However, the tournament just had one Indian player, and it was the former Indian opener Virender Sehwag who led Maratha Arabians. He didn’t have a solid impact in the tournament, as he played in just three out of the two matches his team played.

He was dismissed on duck in Maratha’s very first match of the tournament and was Shahid Afridi’s third victim in his hat-trick. He did not bat in the second match. He finally succumbed to a back injury in the semi-final where his team also lost.
Sehwag, however, feels his trip to the UAE was a successful trip, as he feels players from UAE can be considered for the Indian Premier League and the tournament turned out to be a scouting mission for him.
Sehwag is the mentor of Kings XI Punjab and feels he might get some bargains in the upcoming IPL auction looking at the talent in the Middle-Eastern country.

“Players from UAE and Afghanistan are playing in this league. As a mentor in the IPL, I have watched a lot of players, and when it comes to auction in the IPL, I will know the players who have the capability to score runs or take wickets.”
UAE opener Chirag Suri was included in the Gujarat Lions squad in this year’s IPL, and Sehwag feels the country has a lot of talent and can play with the stars of the game.
He also said T10 league is the way forward but also feels such kind of a league cannot be played like it was played in the UAE. He said,
“You can’t play T10 everywhere in the world. This is the first league. In coming year, maybe [elsewhere], you never know.”
