The Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni rolled back the years and made us relive the old vintage Dhoni by smashing a match-winning innings against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. It was a pure masterpiece by the former Indian skipper as he remained unbeaten on 70 of 34 deliveries to help Chennai chase down a mammoth target of 205 in 4th delivery of the final over.

Dhoni came on to the crease when Chennai was precariously placed at 74/4. They required a partnership badly and it was exactly what Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu provided Chennai. It was some exceptional strokeplay by the duo. Dhoni, in particular, looked in supreme and smashed his 2nd delivery of Pawan Negi for a big six.

He added another in the very next over of Corey Anderson which went sailing over the deep mid wicket fielder. It was carnage on display from Dhoni. In the next over of Pawan Negi, he smashed the first two deliveries for gigantic sixes which helped CSK slowly but steadily claw their way back into the match. Sixes kept flowing from his blade. Rayudu also joined in the act and struck some lusty blows.

Dhoni seals the deal with a majestic knock

After a brilliant partnership of 101 runs between Rayudu and Dhoni, the former was run out for the 3rd time in the tournament. It was a brilliant throw by Umesh Yadav which sent him back to the pavilion. Caribbean all-rounder Dwayne Bravo joined Dhoni with CSK needing 30 of the last couple. It was a sensational sliced six from MS Dhoni in the penultimate over of Mohammed Siraj which totally put him under immense pressure.

Siraj ended up bowling three consecutive wide deliveries which brought the calculation down to 16 of the final over. Bravo began with a four and six in the first two deliveries which shifted the scales in favour of Chennai. He took a single of the 3rd delivery. Now it was all up to Dhoni to finish off the deal. He did that in style. Dhoni shuffled across the off stump and deposited the length delivery from Corey Anderson straight over the deep mid-wicket fielder.
