Former India opener Virender Sehwag has paid a glowing tribute to MS Dhoni as the latter celebrates his 39th birthday today. Wishes are pouring in from all the corners for the former India captain. The World Cup-winning captain is arguably the most popular Indian cricketer at the moment and even though he is in the twilight of his career, his popularity is showing absolutely no signs of dwindling.
MS Dhoni’s journey in cricket is truly inspirational. Not many had thought that the small town boy from Ranchi would make it so big in the game. But throughout his illustrious career, he proved his detractors wrong and went on to achieve unprecedented heights.
He is the first and so far only captain to have won all the ICC tournaments – 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 50-over World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy. MS Dhoni is also the first Indian captain to lead the team to the top of ICC Test rankings. He led India in a record 200 ODIs, of which India won 110 matches. MS Dhoni has represented India in 90 Tests, 348 ODIs and 98 T20Is. He has scored more than 10,000 ODI runs, and over 4,000 runs in Test cricket.
And Virender Sehwag paid him a fitting tribute to the legendary cricketer on his birthday. The former India opener took to Twitter to wish his ex-India teammate, writing:
“Once in a generation, a player comes and a nation connects with him, think of him as a member of their family, kuch bahut apna sa lagta hai. Happy Birthday to a man who is the world ( Dhoni-ya ) for his many admirers. #HappyBirthdayDhoni”

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni has not played a competitive game since the World Cup semifinal last year. As soon as the tournament ended, he took a sabbatical from the game which was supposed to end in the IPL. However, the BCCI has suspended the league indefinitely in the light of the pandemic.
