VVS Laxman and Shoaib Akhtar Set for Coaching Roles at UAE T20x

The organizers for the UAE T20x tournament have announced a host of coaches and several former players who are set to take on non-playing roles for the inaugural edition of the tournament tournament. It is slated to be played in UAE in December. Former international players like VVS Laxman, Venkatesh Prasad, Robin Singh and Sanjay Bangar have all signed to be part of the tournament.  AR Srikkant who is the strategic analyst of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League will also be part of the tournament.

Former Pakistan stars like Shoaib Akhtar, Saqlain Mushtaq, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Misbah-ul-Haq, Saeed Ajmal and Waqar Younis have all confirmed their participation in the tournament.  Former Sri Lankan speedster Chaminda Vaas has put himself up for selection. His name will be up as a bowling coach when the T20x auction and draft take place later in the year.

“The coaching roster we are currently building boasts some of the sport’s best former players and career coaches. It is another clear demonstration of our commitment to not only showcase emerging talent. But to provide them with a high standard of competition. World-class coaching that will help develop their individual game,” said Zayed Abbas. He is a board member at Emirates Cricket Board (ECB).

The structure of the UAE T20x will ensure that emerging and junior players are picked in each team. The team will also consist of three Associate member players and three national team players from the UAE. Each team will also consist of five international star players and an international icon. The announcement of AB de Villiers as the brand ambassador of the tournament was also confirmed.

The presence of so many big stars in the tournament will definitely make it a worth watching tournament. It will be interesting to see how the inaugural tournament pans out.
