Perhaps, the Indian National Cricket Team had never had a better year than 2019. Across the formats, the Virat Kohli-led side has grown from strength to strength to become a force to reckon. As Virat Kohli termed in the recent past, apart from the half-an-hour of play in the semifinal of the ICC World Cup 2019, the Indian team managed a successful year in their kitty. Meanwhile, the former cricketer VVS Laxman has picked his best moment of the year.
Spilling the beans, VVS Laxman called India beating Australia in Australia was a massive achievement for India, this year. The special batsman of India stated that it was his dream to win in Australia during his times, which didn’t happen, unfortunately. However, he is pretty happy that the Virat Kohli-led side has achieved the feat.
I was not able to achieve that in my career – VVS Laxman
India had won the first Test in Melbourne (December 6-10) last year by 31 runs in Adelaide. They lost the second match (December 14-18) in Perth by 146 runs. However, they came back strongly in the third Test in Melbourne (December 26-30), registering a famous win by eight wickets. The fourth and the final Test (January 3-7) had ended in a draw in Sydney to help India lift the prestigious Border-Gavaskar trophy.
“It’s been a very good year for Indian cricket but being a Test cricketer, my dream was always to beat Australia in Australia but I was not able to achieve that in my career,” Laxman said while speaking on Star Sports’ Cricket Live Show.
“I’m so glad that this Indian team under Virat’s leadership has beaten Australia for the first time in their own backyard which is my favourite moment of Indian cricket in 2019,” he added.
Well, as VVS Laxman said, it was a special moment for the Indian National Cricket Team in 2019. For the first time since 1947, India were able to register a Test series victory in Australia as they defeated the Tim Paine-led side 2-1 in the four-match rubber.
