Former Pakistan skipper and the current national coach, Waqar Younis has signed a two year deal with the Bangladesh Premier League franchise Sylhet Sixers.

He has been appointed as the head coach of the franchise. The former fast bowler is all set to replace Jafrul Ehsan in the 2018 and the 2019 edition.

The former legendary fast bowler is currently working with the Pakistan Super League franchise, Islamabad United. He is the director and also the bowling coach. It has been the presence of Waqar and Dean Jones in the dressing room which has helped them reach the top of the table.

They have also become the 1st team to qualify for the playoffs in the 3rd edition of the tournament.

“Bangladesh is a passionate cricketing nation and it really fun working in the circuit,” Waqar was quoted as saying by the ESPN Cricinfo.

“Bangladesh has emerged among the top-eight countries now. They are playing top-class cricket, and it’s really satisfying for you as a coach to help them grow,” he further added.

The Sylhet Sixers franchise is going through a transitional phase since last year. The owners of the franchise have also changed.

“We are honoured to have a legend in our team,” chief executive of Sylhet Sixers Yasir Obaid said. “We had him as ambassador and mentor last year and were always [keen] to have him in a full-time role. We couldn’t be happier that he finally agreed on a long-term deal with us as head coach,” he added.

The fast bowler previously had a couple of stints as the coach of Pakistan national team. It was after the fast bowler retired from all forms of cricket in 2004. He was the bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League in 2013.
