India cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar has welcomed the changes in the rules made by Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the authority that keeps a tab on the guidelines of the game of cricket.
One of the biggest changes made to the rules has been to the rule of batter being run out a the non-striker’s end by the bowler if he leaves the crease before the ball is delivered, which is better known as ‘Mankad’ after the great Indian all-rounder Vinoo Mankad.
Custodian of cricket laws, the MCC has decided to move the law relating to run-outs at non-striker’s end from its “unfair play” section. It relates to run-outs at non-striker’s end when batters back up too far and have often triggered heated debates on the spirit of the game.

ICC Hall of Fame inductee in 2021, Vinoo Mankad was the first player in the history of cricket who performed this dismissal. During the 1947/48 tour of Australia when Mankad effected two run-outs in a similar fashion on two different occasions. Mankad first run-out batsman Bill Brown while the latter was backing up during a match between India and Australia XI.
Mankad again run out the same batsman for backing up during the second Test match in Sydney. The Australian press termed the run-outs as “Mankading”, and criticized the act as unsportsmanlike.

I Am Quite Supportive Of Couple Of Them. The First One Being Mankading Dismissal: Sachin Tendulkar On Changes In Laws Of Run Out Rules
Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar on Wednesday hailed the Marylebone Cricket Club’s (MCC) decision to remove run-out at non-striker’s end from unfair play laws even as veteran England pacer Stuart Broad termed the move as “unfair”.
There have been many famous incidents of mankading like Kapil Dev running out South Africa’s Peter Kirsten in 1992, Jos Buttler was mankaded twice, once by Sachithtra Senanayake in an ODI between England and Sri Lanka in 2014.
Buttler was then mankaded again, this time in IPL 2019, when Ravichandran Ashwin, captain of Punjab Kings, ran him out after giving him a warning previously. This sparked a huge debate in cricketing fraternity with many against this type of dismissal terming it against the spirit of cricket, while some supported Ashwin, saying that batters need to follow the rule of staying in the on-striker crease until the ball is delivered.
Tendulkar said he was always averse to the term used for this dismissal as “Mankaded”.

“New rules have been introduced in cricket by MCC committee and I am quite supportive of couple of them. The first one being Mankading dismissal. I was always uncomfortable with that particular dismissal being called Mankaded.
I am really happy that it’s been changed to run out. It always should have been run out according to me. So this is one good news for all of us. I was not comfortable with it all, but that won’t be the case anymore,” Tendulkar said in a video message.
Cricket is a beautiful sport. It allows us to challenge existing norms and help refine laws of the game. Some of the changes introduced by MCC are praiseworthy.#<!---->C<!---->r<!---->i<!---->c<!---->k<!---->e<!---->t<!---->T<!---->w<!---->i<!---->t<!---->t<!---->e<!---->r p<!---->i<!---->c<!---->.<!---->t<!---->w<!---->i<!---->t<!---->t<!---->e<!---->r<!---->.<!---->c<!---->o<!---->m<!---->/<!---->b<!---->e<!---->t<!---->0<!---->p<!---->a<!---->k<!---->G<!---->Q<!---->M
