Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc recently revealed that he was not too happy with Steve Smith’s tactics against AB de Villiers. Meanwhile, de Villers played an unbeaten knock 126 runs in the first innings as South Africa came back to level the series.
South Africa defeated the visitors by six wickets in the four-match Test series. Kagiso Rabada bagged 11 wickets as the host halted Australia’s winning run. Further, ICC suspended Rabada after brushing his shoulder with Smith after taking his wickets.
Not too happy with Smith’s tactics:
Starc revealed being ordered to take this highly negative approach to de Villiers during the second Test. He also admitted that he was far from happy to do so.
“I can’t say I was too happy with that either,” Starc said when asked about the tactics against de Villiers. “Look, if the captain tells me to do something I’m going to do it, aren’t I?” he added.
Starc bowled last two balls of the 117th over in South Africa’s first innings, and Josh Hazlewood bowled fifth in the 118th well wide of leg stump with the aim of de Villiers not being able to reach them. De Villiers overcome all the Australian bowlers to rise to a whole new level.
However, there was much speculation about de Villiers Test career as he opted out of it for the past two years. He answered his critics and admitted that he wants to continue playing this format.
The third Test starts from March 22 at Cape Town.
