Washington Sundar, Nitish Rana In Line To Earn Maiden India Call For Sri Lanka T20Is

Nitish Rana and Washington Sundar, two of the most impressive newcomers in this year’s Indian Premier League, are reportedly in line to get their maiden India call ups for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka.

According to Cricbuzz, the T20 squad, which is likely to be announced on Monday (December 3), may feature a couple of uncapped players who had performed impressively at the domestic circuit since this year’s IPL. Sundar was reportedly in line to make it to the Indian squad for the T20I series against Australia but missed out after failing to clear the Yo-Yo test in October. However, he has boosted his chances of getting a call after clearing the mandatory test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru on Saturday (December 1).

Washington has not looked back since his impressive outing for Rising Pune Supergiant in the IPL where he took 11 wickets in nine games at an average of 12 and an impressive economy rate of only 5.54. He also impressed in this year’s Duleep Trophy and has continued the same form in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, where he has scored 315 runs so including the 159-run knock against Tripura which was his maiden first-class ton in addition to picking up 12 wickets.

On the other hand, Rana has grabbed the limelight since his starring role for Mumbai Indians in the last IPL, where he plundered 333 runs in 13 games. He has been batting even better in the ongoing Ranji Trophy where he is leading the scoring charts for Delhi after scoring 466 runs in five matches at 66.57.

“The selection committee is looking at a couple of bright prospects. Washington has been doing well as an off-spinning allrounder. There are a few youngsters who have been performing in the domestic circuit. But it remains to be seen whom the team management opt for this series,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
