After a heroic effort at Edgbaston India skipper Virat Kohli could not bail his team out of the trouble in the ongoing second England vs India Test.
The right-handed batsman had waged a lone battle in the series-opener, scoring 200 runs including his maiden Test ton in England. However, he could not rescue his team in the second Test at Lord’s. India were in desperate need of a good knock from their skipper after a disastrous start. But Kohli could score only 23 before falling to a stunning delivery from Chris Woakes.
Asked to bat first, India were off to a disastrous start. They were reeling at 15 for 3 before Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane stopped the rot. However, just when it looked the duo would bat India to a good position, Kohli perished. What would hurt him even more is that he had got a reprieve on the very previous delivery.
It was a delivery from Woakes that would have dismissed any batsman in the world and Kohli could only edge it to Jos Buttler at second slip. The pacer bowled a fuller delivery around the off stump which swung in the air. Kohli, on his part, made a big mistake by closing the bat face on the flick. As a result, he edged the ball to the second slip where Buttler made no mistake after dropping the India skipper on the last delivery.
