Former England captain Mike Atherton, on Saturday, fell to a x-rated Twitter prank while commentating during the ongoing Test between England and West Indies in Southampton. It all happened when the Sky Sports commentator decided to come up with a nice gesture for club cricket which returned in England over the weekend.

Mike Atherton had asked viewers to get in touch with any achievements as Saturday was the first day club cricket had been played across England after the coronavirus shutdown. Relying on unverified sources is always a dangerous game and it did not take long for Mike Atherton to realise it.

The England great hilariously fell for an eyebrow raising prank from an user named Charlie Hilton on Twitter. Hilton tried to trick the commentator into reading a rude made-up name and the latter hilariously fell for it.

“Unbelievable scenes for Cockermouth Cricket Club, with Hugh Jardon bowling 6 for 9!” Hilton tweeted.

Unfortunately for Mike Atherton, he ended up reading the tweet aloud on air before he realised the trap which had been set. His hilarious gaffe left the rest of the commentary box – including ex-England stars Ian Ward and Rob Key – in splits as they struggled to control their laughter.

The fans were also quick to join the party and have some fun at Mike Atherton’s expense.

One wrote: “Michael Atherton on the Sky cricket commentary being duped into saying ‘6 for 9 by Hugh Jardon at Cockermouth’ is top class.”

“An all-time classic on Sky Cricket. Not the game, but Michael Atherton falling for the world’s oldest joke,” wrote another.

“Thanks to whoever got Michael Atherton to read that out on the telly. Made my afternoon,” another user posted.
