Chennai Super Kings bowling coach Eric Simmons, on Sunday, brilliantly predicted Monu Kumar’s delivery during the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Dubai.

Having been signed up by CSK in 2018, Monu Kumar finally made his debut on Sunday. The Chennai-based outfit had signed up the right-arm medium fast bowler for INR 20 lakh. Hailing from Ranchi like his CSK skipper MS Dhoni, Monu Kumar has represented Bihar and the Indian U19 teams as well.

In 22 T20s, he’s taken 25 wickets at a fine economy rate of 6.90. In 2014, he was the part of the Indian team for the U19 World Cup in UAE.  He had claimed four wickets in three matches during the tournament as India bowed out at the quarterfinal stage.

He bagged an IPL contract in 2018 after taking 12 wickets from eight games during Jharkhand’s run to the 2018 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy’s Super League. He has also played 10 List A games but is yet to make his debut in first-class cricket.

Eric Simmons’ prediction:

Talking about the prediction, the incident took place in the 16th over of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s innings. The fourth delivery of the over was a no-ball as Monu Kumar had bowled a high full toss which was well above the batsman AB de Villiers’ waist.

And while Monu Kumar was busy bowling, CSK bowling coach was being interviewed by the commentators. And soon after the umpire signaled the no-ball, the commentator asked Simmons to predict the delivery that Monu Kumar would ball on the free-hit.

Simmons thought for a while before saying yorker and he was spot as Monu Kumar came up with a brilliant delivery on the free hit. He bowled right into the blockhole on leg, making de Villiers score just one. RCB, meanwhile, finished their innings on 145 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs.
