Watch: England Star Joe Root Takes Stunning Diving Catch In Vitality Blast

The fans could not have asked for a better contest when they came to witness the Vitality Blast game between Roses rivals  Lancashire and Yorkshire. The game was reduced to 14-overs per side due to rain. However, the thrilling game made up for the lost overs.

Liam Livingstone hit 79 off just 37 balls to help Lancashire beat Yorkshire in a dramatic last-ball finish. Livingstone hit six sixes during his knock as Lancashire piled up a total of 176 for two in just 14 overs. In reply, Yorkshire fell short by just one run, finishing on 175 for 4. Yorkshire needed 17 from the final over. However, young seamer Toby Lester kept them to 15 to fire his side to a thrilling win.

One of the highlights of the thrilling game was Joe Root’s performance. Fresh off his heroics in the ODI series against India, the England star shone with the bat. He scored 51 not out from just 22 balls to take Yorkshire very close to the win.

When 17 was needed in the last over, Root hit three boundaries to keep his team in the hunt.  He then took a single to leave Kane Williamson with the task of hitting a four on the last ball. However, Williamson only managed a double.

Scoring a quickfire fifty was not Root’s only contribution in the game. Prior to that, he had taken an absolute blinder to dismiss the dangerous Livingstone. The Lancashire captain must have thought he had hit a boundary when he lifted Steven Patterson’s delivery towards extra cover. However, Root, standing at mid-off, moved towards his left and made a full length dive to take a stunning catch with both hands.

Root has been in incredible form with the bat at the moment. He hit centuries in the last ODIs against India to help England come from behind and win the series 2-1. The Test skipper would be keen to continue the same form when England take on India in the five-Test series.
