The security of the players on the field in India continues to be a worry for the teams. In the past one year or so, there have been several instances of fans invading the pitches to catch a glimpse of their favourite star. Recently, former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar had lashed out at the security arrangement at the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium in Pune after a fan broke the security cordon and entered the playing area during the second Test between India and South Africa.
During the third day of the game, a fan entered the playing area and ran towards Rohit Sharma, who was standing at the slips. The fan went down on the ground and touched Rohit’s feet, before he was escorted off the playing area by the security staff. However, Gavaskar was mighty furious with the incident and had held the ground security staff responsible for the interruption.
“These incidents happen because security people are not watching the crowd but are watching the match. This has been the perennial problem in India,” Gavaskar had said on air.

But Gavaskar’s outrage seems to have fallen on deaf ears as once again the security authorities failed to stop a fan from entering the playing area. The incident took place on day two of the ongoing third Test in Ranchi. The fan breached the security arrangement in order to meet South Africa Quinton de Kock and he managed to do that.
And as soon as he touched de Kock’s feet, the security personnel came to escort him off the field. De Kock, on the other hand, looked a bit scared as he tried to walk away from the fan. The officials, meanwhile, also hit the fan as they took him off the field. De Kock then hilariously picked up the fan’s shoes and gave them to him.
Here is the video of that incident:
