Watch: Goosebumps Guaranteed As Entire Guwahati Stadium Sings Vande Mataram
The weather played spoilsport as the first T20I between India and Sri Lanka was abandoned without a ball being bowled at Guwahati’s Barsapara Stadium. The fans came out in large numbers to support Team India as the entire stadium was looking like a sea of blue jerseys.
It all started on a promising note as the toss was held on time. Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bowl first. But just minutes before the Indian players could take the field, the rain arrived. With the passage of time, the rain got heavier and thus the chances of seeing the game going ahead looked very bleak.
The officials eventually called off the match at around 10 pm (IST). The fans must have been disappointed with the turn of events as they looked in high spirits despite the recent incidents in the city. Last month, Guwahati witnessed huge protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act.
Not the news that we would want to hear, but the 1st T20I between India and Sri Lanka has been abandoned due to rain.

There were also apprehensions over whether it could host the game. But the officials made sure to keep everything ready for the game only to see the weather playing spoilsport. Well, the fans could not cheer for their beloved players but they made their presence felt by singing Vande Mataram together.
The Indian cricket team’s official Facebook page later posted a video of the fans singing the national song together.

Meanwhile, the second game will take place in Indore on Tuesday (January 7) while the third one will take place in Pune on January 10. Following the T20Is, India will lock horns against Australia in a three-match ODI series before flying to New Zealand for a full-fledged series.
