Indian opener KL Rahul fell short of a well-deserved hundred as England ace seamer James Anderson broke a threatening stand on day three of the first Test in Nottingham. KL Rahul marked his return to Test cricket with a solid knock, holding the innings together as it kept wobbling after a mammoth opening stand. But James Anderson claimed his wicket in the third over after lunch.

The dismissal occurred in the 69th over when KL Rahul tried to drive a full delivery from James Anderson to mid-off. Instead, the right-arm seamer induced a drive from the 28-year old as Jos Buttler completed a simple take, giving Anderson his third breakthrough. Rahul’s vigil ended after facing 214 balls and putting on 60 with Ravindra Jadeja, putting India ahead.

The play on day two ended early as persistent rains kept the teams off the field, with the visitors reeling at 125-4. They were at 97-0 at one stage before James Anderson rocked their batting order, dismissing Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli cheaply. By removing KL Rahul for 84, the 39-year old Lancashire seamer also went past Anil Kumble’s 619 in Test cricket to become the third-highest in the history.
Below is the clip of KL Rahul’s dismissal affected by James Anderson:
