There is absolutely no end to Alastair Cook’s miseries in the ongoing England vs India series. The former England skipper had entered the series under immense pressure and has done very little so far to shut his critics up.

In five innings of the series, he managed just 80 runs which further extended his poor record this year. England’s leading run-getter had managed to silence his critics after slamming 244 not out at the MCG during the Ashes towards the end of 2017. But that performance has been sandwiched between a string of poor performances.

He is averaging a poor 19 in Tests this year. It is his lowest a yearly average since he began his Test career with a splendid ton in India in 2006.

Not surprisingly, he entered the Test in Southampton under immense pressure. This was the same ground where he had ended a lean patch in 2014 against the same opposition by scoring a fighting knock. Well, luck deserted him this time around. In the first innings, he managed just 17. And any hopes of scoring big in the second was ended by Jasprit Bumrah in the second.

The opener could score only 12 before edging one to KL Rahul in the slips. Bumrah made Cook to drive one and the latter ended up edging it. It was pitched up and Cook just could not resist the temptation and paid a hefty price. Rahul, meanwhile, nearly made a mess of the catch before taking a juggling catch

Here is a clip of that dismissal:
