Legendary West Indies pacer Michael Holding could not control his emotions and broke down in tears during a live TV cross a day after delivering his powerful anti-racism message. In the wake of the killing of an African-American man named George Floyd by police officers in the US, people across the world have been raising their voice against racism.

The Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement has taken the world by storm. Cricketers are also making sure to speak against racism. The likes of Daren Sammy, Chris Gayle, Michael Carberry and others recently revealed how they faced discrimination in the game due to their skin colour.

And before the start of the ongoing first Test between England and West Indies in Southampton, Michael Holding gave a moving speech. He and former England women team’s player Ebony Rainford-Brent shared their experiences of racism and urged people to embrace the BLM movement.

Michael Holding was on the verge of tears on day one too but managed to keep his emotions under control. However, the emotions eventually got the better of him on day two as he revealed his parents had to face a tough time due to their skin color.

“To be honest, that emotional part came when I started thinking of my parents, and it’s coming again now,” Michael Holding said in a cross with Sky News in the UK.

“I know what my parents went through,” he added before pausing to compose himself.

“My mother’s family stopped talking to her because her husband was too dark. I know what they went through, and that came back to me immediately.

“It (change) is going to be a slow process but even if it’s a baby step at a time, even a snail’s pace, but I’m hoping it will continue in the right direction. Even at a snail’s pace, I don’t care,” said the legendary bowler with tears in his eyes.
