Watch: Mohammed Shami Sends Jonny Bairstow's Leg-Stump For A Walk With Stunning Delivery
Mohammed Shami bowled Jonny Bairstow with an absolute beauty to put India on top in the fourth England vs India Test.
India began day two in fine manner. Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings started the proceedings with the bat on day three with England still trailing India by 23 runs. And even before they could wipe out the slender lead, Jasprit Bumrah came back to haunt them again. The right-arm pacer made Cook edge one to KL Rahul at slip with the scoreboard reading 24.
England’s decision to promote Moeen Ali at number then backfired badly. The allrounder, who impressed in the first innings, could score only 9 before edging an Ishant Sharma delivery behind the stumps where Rahul took a brilliant catch diving forward.
But Jennings and Joe Root did not let India make the most of the early breakthroughs. The duo calmed down the nerves in the dressing room. But just when it looked like they would take England to lunch without their team suffering any further setback, Mohammed Shami dismissed Jennings. The umpires then called lunch with England reeling at 92 for 3.
And on the very first delivery after lunch, Mohammed Shami accounted for Bairstow with an absolute gem to put India in the driver’s seat. It was a stunning in-swinger that left Bairstow clueless. Bairstow went for a front-foot defence but the ball passed through his defence before crashing onto the leg stump. The leg-stump went for a walk, leaving Bairstow in disbelief.
Here is a clip of that wicket:
