After winning the Twenty20 International series and the opening One-day International in Nottingham on July 12, the Men in Blue have had backed themselves to win the second ODI at Lord’s and seal the series with a match to go.

It was English skipper Eoin Morgan, who won the toss and surprisingly elected to bat first. The trend on this tour has been winning the toss and bowl first.

However, the hosts have been so affected by the performance of this India side that they were forced to bat first. The hosts have been the number one side in the 50-over format.

But on the other side, India too played some brilliant white-ball cricket and is on the verge of winning its fourth successive away series in the limited-overs format.

The beginning from English openers turned out to be on the same line as Nottingham. Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow played some wonderful shots as England got off to a flying start.

Bairstow, in particular, struck some gorgeous shots anticipating the fact that the introduction of Kuldeep Yadav might stem the run flow.

The left-arm chinaman bowler Kuldeep provided the first two breakthroughs in the form of both openers in his own style.

Kuldeep makes merry yet again:

Bairstow was castled by a brilliant delivery. He bagged his third wicket of a pretty poor delivery. It was knee height full toss and had six written all over it.

However, the English skipper Eoin Morgan failed to time it well and was eventually holed out in the deep by Shikhar Dhawan. Moreover, the wickets kept falling as the home team again suffered a mid-innings collapse.

The Indian bowlers were right in the areas and never really allowed them to press on the accelerator. Ben Stokes and Buttler got dismissed by Hardik Pandya and Umesh Yadav respectively.

Furthermore, in the process, Mahendra Singh Dhoni also took 300 catches and became only the fourth gloveman in the world to achieve so.

Rohit’s brilliant catch:

The best catch of the innings was yet to come. It was a well-flighted delivery by leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and Moeen Ali attempted a big shot. He didn’t time it properly and Rohit completed a sensational running catch in the deep.

Rohit Sharma went on to cover a lot of ground and eventually completed the catch. England posted 322 for seven with Joe Root scoring an unbeaten century.
