West Indies’ left-handed batsman Shimron Hetmyer was at his imperious best during the first ODI against India at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. The top-order batsman made himself comfortable at the crease and looked in sublime touch from the word go. Indian bowlers took a beating from Hetmyer who scored his fifth ODI century. He ended up scoring 139 runs off just 109 balls on the back of 11 fours and 7 towering sixes.

The star performer steered his team to an 8-wicket win over India and helped his side take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. He was named the man of the match for playing the ultimate knock of his life as he registered his career-best score in ODIs.

Shimron Hetmyer unleashed the beast inside him when he smashed a monstrous six during the match. On the fifth delivery of the 36th over bowled by all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, Hetmyer smashed a 106 meter six onto the roof of the stadium. Meanwhile, Indian skipper Virat Kohli couldn’t believe what he had seen and was really disappointed after watching the shot.

Shimron Hetmyer was bought by Royal Challengers for INR 4.2 crore at IPL 2019 auction. However, he failed to justify his price tag as he got out for cheap scores in the last season’s IPL. He was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ahead of the IPL 2020 auction scheduled for December 19 in Kolkata. After his sensational knock against India, Shimron Hetmyer would pretty much inspire the bidders at the upcoming auction.

West Indies need one win to seal the ODI series after T20I series disappointment. On the contrary, India face a must-win fixture in order to stay alive in the series. The second ODI is scheduled to be played at Dr Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on December 18 (Wednesday).
