Yet again Rishabh Pant is in the news following the knock against South Africa, where he failed to use the perfect chance of lifting his side to a decent total on the board. As usual, criticism haunted him again, however, Yuvraj Singh came in as support to the youngster.

Rishabh Pant may have established himself as the front-runner to succeed MS Dhoni as the regular wicket-keeper for the Indian cricket team but the youngster’s journey has not been without its fair share of criticism. The youngster has come under a lot of fire for his reckless shot selection and the last few matches have not yielded the desired result for Pant.

No point in comparing Rishabh Pant to MS Dhoni – Yuvraj Singh

Amidst criticism from multiple former players, left-hander Rishabh Pant has received support from one of India’s best-ever left-handers. Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh, on Tuesday, backed the under-fire Pant, saying the youngster doesn’t deserve the criticism coming his way and needs the support of captain Virat Kohli to overcome the slump.

Pant struggled during the away series against the West Indies last month before failing to make an impact in the recent home T20 International series against South Africa.

Speaking to Times Now, Yuvraj said, “It’s unfair to him that people keep talking about his retirement. We need to give him time to decide what he wants. He is MS Dhoni who has done so much for Indian cricket.”

“He needs to be spoken to and somebody needs to get the best out of him. Criticising him is not the solution. I’m very keen to see who speaks to him and helps him understand better. There is no point in comparing him to MS Dhoni. It’s taken many years to become MS.”

It would be interesting to see whether Rishabh Pant gets the nod ahead of Wriddhiman Saha yet again or not. With pitches helping the turn, the management would look after the ability of wicket-keeping.
