West Indies Announce Test Squad For India Series

West Indies, on Friday, announced their 13-member squad for the upcoming two match Test series against India. The series will see both the teams kickstarting their campaigns in the inaugural Test Championship which kicked off earlier this month with the Ashes in England.

West Indies have added a couple of new faces to the squad in the form of Rahkeem Cornwall and Shamarh Brooks. Both Cornwall and Brooks are yet to make their Test debuts. Barring those two names, the other players were very much expected to make it to the squad. Kraig Braithwaite, Darren Bravo, Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, Roston Chase, John Campbell and skipper Jason Holder will take care of the batting department.

Kemar Roach will spearhead the pace attack which comprises the likes of Holder and Shannon Gabriel. West Indies will be relying on Chase and Cornwall to get the work done as spinners. Cornwall has taken 260 wickets in 55 first-class matches and can make his debut in the series. Cornwall is also an excellent lower-order batsman. He averages just below 25 in 97 innings.

West Indies face a litmus test against the top-ranked side in the world at the moment. India have started the tour on a stunning note by whitewashing the hosts in the three-match T20I series.

Both the teams are currently locked in the three-match ODI series. The series-opener was washed out and the second game will take place on Sunday in Trinidad. West Indies, however, will be confident of doing well in Tests. They will be taking confidence from their remarkable 2-1 victory over England earlier this year.

The two-match series will get underway on August 22 at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua. The second Test will start from August 30 at Sabina Park in Jamaica.
