Stuart Broad impinged his name in the pantheon of fast bowling when he became only the fourth seamer and seventh overall in the history of the game to breach the 500 wicket barrier in Test match cricket.

Broad dismissed West Indies Kraigg Brathwaite with yet another nip-backer, trapping him right in front of wickets for his 500th scalp. But just as Broad completed the feat, both he and James Anderson began to trend on social media. Why. That is because Brathwaite was the same batsman that Broad’s partner-in-crime James Anderson dismissed three years ago as his 500th dismissal.

Interestingly, Broad revealed in the post-match interview to Sky Sports, that James Anderson had already predicted the occurrence of events in the lead-up to the 5th day.

“What a stat that is. Jimmy told me in the warm-up, ‘you know who it’s going to be’ and then told me his 500th victim was Brathwaite. The stars have to be aligned for that to happen! I think that’s going to be a quiz question for many years to come,” Broad said.

Stuart Broad scripted a remarkable redemption after having been dropped from the side in the series opener at the Rose Bowl in Southampton as England opted to go with the pace of Mark Wood and Jofra Archer. Broad returned to the side in the 2nd Test and during the course of the next two games proved why he is such an irresistible force in seaming conditions.

He bowled a game-changing spell in the 2nd Test when England were looking for quick wickets to set-up the match while the 3rd match saw him revel in the all-rounder’s role as he scored a breathtaking half-century in the first innings and followed it up with a ten-wicket-haul. But Broad is done yet. He is looking forward to coming back and emulating the same heroics against Pakistan in the three-match series which starts from August 05.

“What is pleasing me at the moment is that I feel so fresh and excited to play the game. Now I’m looking forward to a couple of days off outside the bio-secure environment but also looking forward to being back and playing against Pakistan,” Broad said.
