West Indies registered a comfortable 7-wicket win against Bangladesh in the first Test between the two sides which was played at the North Sound’s Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on June 19, 2022.
West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite won the toss and decided to field first a decision which helped West Indies win the first Test match. Bangladesh found it difficult to counter the hosts’ pace attack and was shot out for just 103 runs in under 33 overs.
Shakib Al Hasan, the Tigers’ captain, managed to score 51 and Tamim Iqbal made 29 runs. For the West Indies, Jayden Seales and Alzarri Joseph picked three wickets each, while Kemar Roach and Kyle Mayers picked two wickets apiece.
In reply, captain Brathwaite tops-cored with 94, while vice-captain Jermaine Blackwood made 63 runs and Nkrumah Bonner made 33 runs. For Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked 4/59, and Khaled Ahmed took two wickets.
Kemar Roach’s Five-Wicket Haul Restricts Bangladesh’s Lead To Just 83 Runs
In the second innings, Mahmudul Hasan Joy made 42, while Shakib Al Hasan made his second fifty of the match, scoring 63, while wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan made 62 runs as Bangladesh inched towards 245 runs.
The lead could have been a bit more, but Kemar Roach took the wickets of Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Nurul Hasan and completed his five-wicket haul by taking the scalp of Ebadot Hossain.
West Indies needed 84 runs to win and though Khaled Ahmed took 3/27, John Campbell’s 58* and 26 from Jermaine Blackwood made 26* as the home side past the finishing line with 7 wickets in hand and went up 1-0 up in the series.
Kemar Roach was given the Player of the Match award for his 7 wickets in the match.
