Women T20 Challenge: Trailblazers vs Supernovas - Match Report

In the Women’s T20 Challenge, Supernovas skipper Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to bowl first against Trailblazers. The Smriti Mandhana-led team had managed to put 129 runs on the board in their allotted 20 overs.
Suzie Bates scored maximum 32 runs for the Trailblazers. Australia’s fast bowler Megan Schutt scalped two wickets as she was able to dismiss her national teammates in the form of Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney respectively.
This match is a stepping stone while considering the women’s cricket in India.
Supernovas all-rounder Ellyse Perry also took two wickets. Meanwhile, Harmanpreet Kaur-led team was able to put a fine fielding effort. Supernovas captain Kaur took two spectacular catches while fielding at the mid-on position. Perry also grabbed a stunner while coming forward to catch from the long-on region.
In response, Trailblazers were provided with a good start by their openers. Indian captain Mithali Raj and England batswoman Danielle Wyatt were able to stitch together an alliance of 47 runs. Both the right-handed batters played some delightful strokes in their partnership.
Meanwhile, the match is played to launch Women’s Twenty20 league at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. This match is expected to be a stepping stone towards the women’s cricket in India.
Indian Women Cricket has reached new heights. There is an upward swing in the popularity of women cricket in India after the Mithali-led team was able to reach the final of the previous year’s World Cup.
Meanwhile, Committee of Administrators chief Vinod Rai has said that they are planning to introduce Women IPL in two-three years.
Meanwhile, Supernovas also kept losing wickets at regular intervals as a result of which the match went down to the wire.
Poonam Yadav and Suzie Bates were able to scalp two wickets each while veteran Jhulan Goswami and Ekta Bisht took one wicket each.
However, Supernovas were able to cruise to a three-wicket win. Vastrakar was able to hit the winning run on the last ball of the Women T20 Challenge fixture.
