Cricket has bore the brunt of the novel coronavirus pandemic as the world has come to a stand still. Amid this, the governing council is mulling their options for the T20 World Cup this year and next year. The council has kept the option of hosting both the T20 World Cup next year if need arises. Amid all the speculations, former India cricketer Atul Wassan feels the World Test Championship should be scrapped to open up a bigger window for both the events to be held in 2010.
The World Test Championship was seen as the World Cup for the longest format. It was initially proposed in 2009, but after two failed attempts in 2013 and 2017, it was officially launched in July 2019. The Championship involves nine teams playing a series of 71 matches across a span of two years. Every side is designated to play three home series and as many away with the top two teams at the end of it clashing for the final.

World Test Championship would hold no relevance: Atul Wassan
With the grueling schedule of the World Test Championship brought to a halt due to the pandemic situation, it would hold no relevance once the season resumes, Atul Wassan strongly feels. He also thinks if the tournament gets scrapped it would open up a big window to accommodate to mega ICC events next year.

“I think the (World) Test Championship should be scrapped as it would hold no relevance, because it has no trust. If it gets scrapped and a new window opens up, that would be better than cramming two big events together,” Atul Wassan told CricketAddictor in an exclusive interview.
India are currently seated on top of the World Test Championship table with 360 points. Their only Test series loss came against New Zealand earlier this year. Australia are second in the table with 296 points and New Zealand are third with 180.
