Wriddhiman Saha Training Hard to Recover for the England tour

India’s premier Test wicketkeeper-batsman, Wriddhiman Saha is training hard at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to be fit ahead of the all-important five-match Test series against England.
Meanwhile, Saha sustained a thumb injury during the Indian Premier League. As a result, he missed the historic Test match against Afghanistan last month as well. It will give enough headaches to the selection when they would sit to pick the squad.
The selection is sweating over the match-fitness of Mohammed Shami and Wriddhiman Saha. While Shami had already cleared the Yo-Yo test, Saha along with Jasprit Bumrah is racing against time to pass it. As a result, the selection committee is leaving it as late as possible to select the team.
It is likely they will pick the squad after India A’s four-day unofficial Test against England Lions. Saha is currently nursing the injury and had barely trained the last month.
“The injury is more serious than it seemed. He is still wearing a soft plaster on his thumb. He is just going through his fitness drills and very little cricket,” a source close to the team management told TOI. “It will be a huge risk if he goes to England with even one percent doubt in his mind. The selectors will pick a day for selection in another two days,” he added.
TOI also reported Shami would be crucial in England in those testing conditions. Bumrah’s injury has also disturbed their plans.
“Shami is being closely monitored. He virtually played no cricket for three months due to his personal problems. It’s a matter of getting him back in shape,” the source continues.
Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik is likely to retain his spot in the Test. However, it will be interesting to see what the selectors do if Saha fails to make the cut.
