On Tuesday (June 12), the prominent Yorkshire County Club (YCC) has expressed their desire to sign AB de Villiers for the 2019 edition of the Twenty20 Blast.

Interestingly, it will be possible if only de Villiers makes himself available for the tournament. Arguably, one the greatest cricketers of the modern generation, de Villiers recently retired from international cricket with immediate effect which shook the entire cricketing world.

The 34-year-old de Villiers has cited fatigue as the reason behind him taking the decision.

However, despite his international retirement, he has made his indications clear. He expressed to continue playing T20 cricket all around the world.

In addition, which tournament he will pick remains to be seen. His association with the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB( should remain intact even in the coming year.

“We’d certainly be interested in signing him,” said Yorkshire’s director of cricket Martyn Moxon in as release.

Moxon has been in touch with the player’s agents.

“It’s unclear at the minute what he wants to play; it would appear that he’s only interested in T20. So, we’ll just have to assess that when the time comes,” Moxon said.

“I spoke to his agent just to find out what his plans were, and he said, ‘Well, he’s not going to do anything this year, and then he’s going to assess what he wants to do for next year in due course’. “All we’ve done is post our interest to be kept informed of what his plans are,” Moxon asserted.

There is no doubt about the fact that de Villiers won’t have a shortage of suitors when he makes himself available to play in the United Kingdom (UK). He may continue to represent the Proteas T20 franchise Titans.

The Cape Town-based cricketer might not have immediate plans of playing overseas. But it will surely happen in the near future.  He has been a sensational cricketer for South Africa over the year.

Cricketing giant de Villiers has scored 8,765 runs in 114 Tests at an average of 50.66 with 22 centuries.

In 228 ODI’s he has smashed 9,577 runs at an average of 53.50. It also includes 25 centuries. In the T20 format, he has scored 6,649 runs at an average of 35.36 including three centuries.

Moxon heaps praise on AB de Villiers:

“Look, it’s early days. There would be a lot of competition for him. But I think that when someone of his quality becomes available you have to be interested and kept up to date with what his thinking is,” added Moxon.

“He has so many qualities – not just as a player, but the experience that he would add to the dressing room, too. Ideally with overseas players, you’re looking not only for good individual performances. But also for the value that they can give to the dressing room in assisting young players in particular. and he ticks all those boxes ten times over,” Moxon concluded.
