South Africa great Dale Steyn has paid a heartwarming tribute to Parthiv Patel after the latter announced his retirement from all forms of the game. 18 years after making his debut in international career as a 17-year old, Parthiv Patel brought down curtains on his playing career on Wednesday (December 9).

He took to Twitter to announce his decision. The 35-year old has finished his career with 25 Tests, 38 ODIs and two T20Is. His last international appearance came in India’s famous Test win in Johannesburg in January 2018. A year later, he was also part of the squad when India won a Test series in Australia for the first time in their history.

While the wicketkeeper-batsman did not have an international career like he would have expected, he definitely made his mark in domestic arena. He has retired from the game as one of Indian cricket’s stalwarts.  He scored an impressive 11,240 first-class runs at an average of 43.49, with 27 hundreds  as well as taking 486 catches and 77 stumpings. He will be also remembered as the first Gujarat captain to lead the state to titles in Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.

As Parthiv Patel announced his retirement, the cricketing fraternity paid him a fitting tribute and Dale Steyn also made sure to wish his former IPL teammate. Dale Steyn shared the dressing room with Parthiv for several teams – Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers – in the IPL.

The legendary pacer started by congratulating Parthiv on his wonderful career and pointed out how his knowledge of the game impressed as well as helped him, tweeting:

“Congratulations on a wonderful career PP! We played in a lot of teams together and I’ve always enjoyed your skill with bat and gloves but your knowledge of the game is also next level, and certainly helped me many a time. All the best for what’s to come bud, well done! @parthiv9”
