In a stunning outburst, Chris Gayle has come down hard on his former West Indies teammate Ramnaresh Sarwan, calling him the likes of “snake”, “vindictive”, “immature”. Chris Gayle, who recently joined St Lucia Zouks ahead of the upcoming season of Caribbean Premier League, alleged that Sarwan had a big role to play in his ouster from the Jamaica Tallawahs.

The West Indies superstar spoke about his release from his Jamaica in a video posted on his YouTube channel. The left-handed batsman, who was hoping to end his career with the Jamaica-based outfit, said he was undermined by several people with Sarwan being the prime among them.

Chris Gayle had started his CPL journey with Tallawahs and played for them for four years. He then moved to St Kitts and Nevis Patriots before re-signing with Tallawahs ahead of last season, which was supposed to be a three-year contract. However, the contract came to a premature end and Chris Gayle did not hold back as he slammed several for his ouster from the team.

“When I came back to the Tallawahs, Sarwan was assistant coach. Myself and Sarwan had a discussion, he wanted to be the head coach. When I left Jamaica Tallawahs, that team was a high-spirited team. (But) the amount of complaints I used to get when I wasn’t there, the amount of problems they had with Sarwan – Russell was the captain at that time – the amount of problem that Sarwan and the captain have…so many players were traumatised because of Sarwan,” Chris Gayle said.

“The amount of lies he used to tell on the players…him and the team management were not getting on,” he added.

In his allegations, the opening batsman said that among many dubious things that Sarwan did, one was to influence the overseas players to “make a mockery of him in front of the younger players”, which eventually led to an outburst from him in a team meeting and nearly got physical.

“That goes to show your own people undermine you. Doesn’t matter how far you and them are coming from, they still undermine you,” said the two-time T20 World Cup-winner before adding: “Out of that era – 1996 – I’m the only one active, playing. Everyone else retired. I’m the last man standing within that era…and I’m still going strong. So it kind of hurt them to see Chris Gayle still playing and still being successful. I’m talking about past and present players. But I’m dealing with you Sarwan. I’ll deal (with the others) whenever that time comes.

The veteran batsman also alleged that there was a political angle to his exit from the Tallawahs and stated that CEO of the team Jeff Miller was the one who executed the exit strategy.
