Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh named Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul as his picks to overhaul the record for the fastest fifty in T20 internationals. The southpaw is the current holder of the feat, which he achieved at the Kingsmead in Durban during the 2007 World T20 against England.

A two-time World Cup winner, Yuvraj had his eyes on decimating the English bowling attack that day. He joined his captain, MS Dhoni in the middle at the departure of Robin Uthappa. The spin-bowling all-rounder amassed a fifty off only 12 deliveries that included three fours and seven sixes. In that same game, Yuvraj smashed six sixes off Stuart Broad, a feat that has never been repeated in T20Is post that.
A host of batsmen have come close in recording a fifty in less than 12 deliveries; however, none have managed to do so. Initially, the retired-all-rounder thought that Chris Gayle and Ab de Villiers could do it, but according to the current scheme of things, he named Hardik and Rahul to break it.
Keeping in mind, KL Rahul’s record of a 14-ball 50 in the IPL, Yuvraj believes that he can be the man to overhaul the elusive record. And considering the destructive presence of Pandya at the crease, one has to consider them amongst the potential candidates.
At the same, the 38-year old admitted that it is far more challenging to score a fifty off the very minimum number of deliveries since all are quality bowlers in international cricket than in IPL.
“Two guys I thought could break the record are Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers. KL can do it he has 50 off 14 balls in the IPL but scoring a 50 in international cricket where all are quality bowlers and in IPL where you get two quality bowlers is not the same. But KL and Hardik have the potential.” Yuvraj Singh said as quoted by Times Now.
Yuvraj Singh questions the selection of Vijay Shankar for the 2019 World Cup:
Furthermore, the man of the tournament in the 2011 World Cup, was amongst the many, who was baffled by the selection of Vijay Shankar over Ambati Rayudu for the mega event in 2019. All-rounder Shankar had played only five ODIs before the competition, which irked Yuvraj, who claimed that the selectors must be questioned for picking an inexperienced player for such a crucial tournament.
“The selection during the 2019 World Cup was shocking. You need people to question those decisions when players who have played 5 ODIs are playing in the middle order. Can the current selectors question these decisions when they themselves have played only 5 ODIs?” he further stated.
