2011 World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh who called it quits from all forms of cricket on June 10 this year has chipped in with interesting words for the upcoming 100-ball tournament. According to him, the 100-ball format is going to be one heck of a blast and for sure it will turn out to be an absolute visual treat to the supporters.

This is not a usual format like the T10 or T20 because the entire focus will be about 100 balls. This type of tournament will surely send the fans into a frenzy because of the type of format it is. Every batsman will look to utilise each ball to better effect by hitting a six or a four and the other side, the bowler can also target and exploit the batsman’s weakness, in what will be equally competitive and entertaining at the same time.

“I think the new 100-ball format will be an exciting format because it’s not T10, it’s not T20, it’s about 100 balls. That I feel could be an exciting format, close to a revolution like T20 – but we have to wait and watch. If the tournament [Olympics] is over about two weeks, I think 100-ball would be perfect.

If the tournament is, say, ten days, then obviously T10 would be perfect. Depending on the time frame of the Olympics. I think an Olympic gold is very prestigious, so it has to be something in which an athlete should be able to bounce back in situations, so you have to decide that,” Yuvraj Singh was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Speaking about the challenges of the brand new format, Yuvraj added that players will not get even a jiffy to settle themselves as it lasts just for 100 balls. “It’s definitely an exciting tournament but I’m not sure, in terms of pacing yourself in a match – 50-over, Test match, T20 also you have time to pace yourself, but in T10 you don’t have time,” Yuvraj said.

Yuvraj Singh will turn up the heat in the Abu Dhabi T10 league as an all-rounder for Maratha Arabians. On October 24, Arabians signed Yuvraj Singh. The Hundred is scheduled for 2020 and it will see 8 new city-based teams battling it out over a five-week period.

During the match, a change of end will happen right after ten balls and bowlers can bowl either five or ten consecutive balls. Each bowler can bowl a maximum of 20 balls each game. Each bowling side gets a strategic timeout of up to 2.5 minutes.

The brand new tournament will have a 25-ball powerplay start for every team and 2 fielders are permitted outside of the initial 30-yard circle during the powerplay. It should be noted that these playing conditions have been recommended by ECB’s Cricket Committee.
