Veteran batsman Yuvraj Singh has said he would take a call on his career only after the culmination of the 2019 World Cup which is scheduled in the United Kingdom (UK).

The 36-year old Yuvraj is well towards the fag end of his career and is coping criticism every day for his scratchy showing with the bat.

The two-time World Cup-winning team player made a fairy-tale return to the Indian side during the One-day International series against England in 2017.

The southpaw Yuvraj went on to play his career-best knock of 150 during that series. The 50-over competition was his first ODI series in four years.

However, things only went downhill for him from thereon. He had a poor 2017 Champions Trophy in England and Wales where he aggregated 105 runs in four innings.

Eventually, it was followed by yet another dismal outing against Windies. He also failed the mandatory Yo-Yo test thrice which reportedly made the national selectors – to ignore the experienced campaigner.

So much so, things also went haywire in the domestic fold, as he was not included in any of the three squads for the Duleep Trophy.

His performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League’s (IPL) eleventh edition is not a promising one either. In three innings, he has scored 12, 4 and 20 so far. His constant struggles have made many to comment that he should hang up his boots.

However, Yuvraj is in no mood to bid goodbye to the game soon as he is eyeing the upcoming 50-over World Cup.

“I am going to look to play till 2019, whatever cricket I get to play. I will take a call when that year is over,” Yuvraj told ANI.

“Everybody has to take a decision after a while. I have been playing international cricket since 2000, it has been almost 17-18 years on and off. So, I will definitely take a call after 2019,” he added.

Yuvraj starred with both bat and ball when India won the World Cup in 2011. He had scored 362 runs at an average of 90.50 and claimed 15 wickets as India lifted the coveted title.

As of now, Yuvraj will be looking to impress the selectors in the IPL. He is plying his trade for Kings XI Punjab.

The Punjab-based outfit has started the season on a good note, winning four of the first five games.

Speaking about his team’s chances this year, Yuvraj said:

“We are looking ahead to first qualify in the last four and I think we have got a great team this year. We have got a very powerful batting attack, smart bowling attack, and hopefully we look to qualify and then see if we can win the finals,” he said.

Yuvraj Singh also lavished praise on in-form and swashbuckling opener Chris Gayle. The Windies batter scored two fifties and a century in three games he has played so far.

“Oh, I am loving it. Chris has always been a friend off the field. He has been a great batsman, probably one of the most dangerous batsmen in the world and performing like a boss on the field. I am really happy for him and the way he is batting,” he said.
