India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, on Sunday, won the prestigious Polly Umrigar award as well as the Dilip Sardesai honour for his exploits in international cricket in the 2018-19 season. Polly Umrigar award is presented to the best male International cricketer and it carries a citation, trophy and cheque for Rs. 15 lakh.

Dilip Sardesai award is conferred on both the highest wicket-taker and highest run-getter in Test cricket. In a remarkable season, Jasprit Bumrah took 34 wickets in six matches with three five-wicket hauls. His India teammate Cheteshwar Pujara was also bestowed with the same award for scoring 677 runs in 8 matches at an average of 52.07 with three centuries and two half centuries.

Jasprit Bumrah, the world’s number one ODI bowler made his Test debut during India’s tour of South Africa in January 2018 and hasn’t looked back since. The right-arm pacer, who was initially regarded as a white-ball specialist, left everyone surprised with the way he hit the ground running in red-ball cricket.He picked up a five-wicket haul in South Africa, England, Australia and the West Indies, becoming the first and only Asian bowler to achieve the feat.

Jasprit Bumrah played a big role in India’s historic 2-1 Test series win in Australia. It was India’s first-ever Test series win on the Australian soil as the Virat Kohli-led side retained the Border Gavaskar Trophy. He also helped India win Test matches in England, South Africa and West Indies.

Former India batsman Yuvraj Singh, meanwhile, could not stop himself from having some fun at the expense of his former India and Mumbai Indians teammate Jasprit Bumrah. Known for his funny nature, Yuvraj Singh trolled Jasprit Bumrah when the latter took to Instagram to post a picture of himself with the awards he won at the BCCI Awards.

Yuvraj did not waste much time in congratulating Bumrah but did it with a hilarious comment as he wrote: “Jassi has de thoda no ones taking your trophies away ?! Jokes apart many congratulations you truly deserve it ??”
