Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has said that not applying saliva on the ball to shine the ball will have adverse effects for the bowlers and will turn the game in batsmen’s favour. Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, cricketers and bodies are coming forward to eliminate the use of saliva to maintain healthy playing conditions once the game returns.

With no cricketing action taking place due to the COVID-29 pandemic, there has been a lot of discussion on how to bring the sports industry back and running and maintain proper hygiene as well. There are discussions on allowing the use of external substances to polish the ball to do away with one of cricket’s oldest practices, which is using saliva to shine the ball.

When asked about no using saliva to shine the ball, Yuzvendra Chahal said that would make the game turn in batsmen’s favour.

“It will have an impact on drift and swing on the ball. So, in the end, it will become easier for batsmen,” the leggie said. “So another rule should be added then that if a batsman hits a six then he himself will have to bring back the ball,” Yuzvendra Chahal said jokingly.
