IPL 2020 will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), its chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed after the global governing council postponed the 2020 T20 World Cup to next year. IPL 2020 is likely to get underway in September and will run till November. It will be tje second time in history that UAE will host the lucrative tournament.
The decision to move IPL 2020 to UAE was taken after the global governing council postponed the 2020 T20 World Cup to next year. The marquee tournament was originally slated to get underway in October in Australia but as it was postpone due to the epidemic situation, the IPL 2020 could take up its slot.
Pakistan legend Zaheer Abbas on the decision taken by BCCI said that it is not just with India but every country likes to play T20 matches to make money as they know that their is a lot of funding involved in these format.
“Every country likes to play T20 matches to make money. Every country, you know, I am not talking only about India, but all of us because there is so much money involved in these tournaments these days,” Abbas told the Khaleej Times on Friday.
“They (the cricket boards) have so many commitments which they have to fulfil. As you know, the teams coming from the West Indies and Pakistan to England for the Test series, they were in quarantine for some time and they (the West Indies and England) played without a crowd,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Suresh Raina, Kuldeep Yadav, Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma have already started training. International stars like Kane Williamson have also hit the deck in anticipation of the IPL 2020 which looks like the first lucrative franchise tournament set to get underway in a pandemic situation.
Mumbai Indians will put their title on defense in IPL 2020. The side has won the lucrative tournament in the year — 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 — under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.
