India did use their resources well in the series against Sri Lanka but inexperience played its part as the young cricketers found it tough against a quality spin attack from the hosts. The Covid-19 issues in the camp meant that most of the players in the squad had an opportunity to make their debuts for India.

India had tested their bench strength and the experiments were made in preparations for the T20 Worldcup scheduled in October. Even the net bowlers went on to make their debuts for India and it was heartening to see from an Indian perspective. Here are 3 Indian players who made their debut on the Sri Lanka tour but might not play for India again.

Nitish Rana earned his maiden India call-up for the Sri Lanka tour but no one would have expected him to make his debut. He made his ODI debut in the final game against Sri Lanka and was dismissed quickly going for boundaries at the back end of the innings.

However, he had a good chance to prove his skills in the second and third T20I against Sri Lanka but was dismissed cheaply in both innings.

The left-hander has been one of the consistent performers in the Indian domestic circuit and he couldn’t match the expectations on him from the performances for KKR in the IPL. This might be the last game he played for India and he will need some big performances again to step into the Indian team.

Sandeep Warrier was perhaps the luckiest of the players from coming in as a net bowler in the series and he managed to make his debut for India in the 3rd T20 international against Sri Lanka. The right-arm fast bowler has been around the domestic circuit for a long time and has played in the IPL for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Warrier is known for hitting the decks at a good pace and he gets some seam movement too. He bowled decently in the chance he got for India but he certainly does lag behind in the skill sets among the fast bowlers. It is going to be tough for him to play a game for India again despite making his debut.

Krishnappa Gowtham:

The off-spin all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham is one of the highly-rated players going around in the Indian domestic circuit and he was picked up for a hefty price in the IPL as well by the Chennai Super Kings. He can hit the long balls down the order and is a useful off-spinner who fires it into the batsman.

Gowtham made his debut for India in the third ODI against Sri Lanka and picked up a solitary wicket in his spell. His pace was used by the Sri Lanka batsman to their advantage and he couldn’t contribute much with the bat too. He might well not play a game for India again and he is certainly not the youngest too.
