The Indian team as a whole has played really well and the reason behind the team’s success has been each player contributing at different stages of the World Test Championship. The bowlers did their job and the batsman had to cope up with the different situations which made them a little inconsistent.

The likes of Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli haven’t made any centuries in the last two years in international cricket which is a rare sight and it also shows, how the other players have stepped up to the occasion. As we gear up for the inaugural finals, it is time to look at five Indian batsmen with the most runs in the ICC World Test Championship.

5 Indian Batsmen With The Most Runs:

Cheteshwar Pujara is fifth on the list of top run-getters from India in the ICC World Test Championship and he has been going through a rough patch which is very rare for him. He always gets into the act and has been missing the long innings. He scored 818 runs in the 17 tests at an average of 29.21 and with the highest score of 81 in the tournament.

Pujara is not associated with getting starts and not making it count, but such has been the season for him as he hasn’t scored a century in the tournament alongside nine half-centuries. He was battling it hard for India in Australia and there is no doubt that he is a true warrior, but he needs to pull his socks up soon to better his numbers.

Mayank Agarwal:

Mayank Agarwal is fourth on the list of top five run-getters from India in the ICC World Test Championship and the opener has lost his place in the Indian playing XI with Shubman Gill’s excellence in Australia. Agarwal has scored 857 runs in 12 Tests at an average of 42.85 and the highest score of 243 in the tournament.

Agarwal hit three centuries and two half-centuries in the tournament until he was dropped and he is not a certainty in the playing XI for the finals too. He has been in good form recently in the IPL and his confidence will be a little bit better. He must utilize the opportunity if he gets a chance again in the Indian test team.

Virat Kohli:

Virat Kohli is third on the list of top five run-getter for India in the ICC World Test Championship and the Indian skipper has been going through a century drought in the last two years despite having the starts. Kohli has scored 877 runs in the 14 tests he played at an average of 43.85 with the highest score of unbeaten 254 in the tournament.

Kohli scored two centuries and five half-centuries and he has been the go-to man for India in overseas conditions. He had a brilliant England tour in 2018 and returned with excellent numbers. He will have to lead from the front if India has to win the ICC World Test Championship finals in England.

Rohit Sharma:

Rohit Sharma is second on the list of top five run-getter for India in the ICC World Test Championship and he has been phenomenal after being promoted up the batting order. He is the highest run-scoring opener in the tournament with 1030 runs in 11 Tests at an average of 64.37 and the highest score of 212.

Rohit has scored four centuries and two half-centuries and he has become a key player for India at the top of the order in tests too. He is a game-changer and has been very aggressive too against the spinners. He played the sweep shot really well in the series against England in the turning wickets and was India’s rescue man.

Ajinkya Rahane leads the chart for India in the Batsmen with the most runs in the ICC World Test Championship and he is also the only Indian batsmen to feature in the top five run-getters in the tournament. Rahane has scored 1095 runs in 17 Tests at an average of 43.80 with the highest score of 115.

Rahane scored three centuries and six half-centuries in the tournament and despite all the controversies going around him, the vice-captain has stepped up for the team in the most crucial moments. He has been very inconsistent in the last ten innings but is an important member of the middle order.
