He picked up two five wickets hauls in the process and led the fast bowling attack from the front. Here are the three most memorable spells by Jasprit Bumrah in the ICC World Test Championship.
3 Most Memorable Spells By Jasprit Bumrah:
3.Bumrah’s 4 For 56 Against Australia, Melbourne 2020
This was a big effort from the Indian speedster to get back on track as India had come off a humiliating defeat in the first test against Australia. With his bowling partners Ishant and Shame being injured, the onus was on Bumrah to take the responsibility and he reacted in a brilliant way. India desperately needed to start off the second test well and having lost the toss, India was asked to bowl first.
Bumrah managed to pick up four wickets for 56 runs in his 16 over spell which halted any kind of partnership building from Australia and eventually they were all out for 195 in the first innings. He followed it up with two important wickets in the second innings, and India staged a famous comeback by winning the second test by 8 wickets.
2.Bumrah’s 5 For 7 Against West Indies, Antigua 2019
This was the first test for Jasprit Bumrah in West Indies and he could not have much impact in the first innings he bowled picking up just one wicket. West Indies were set a target of 419 to win the test and they were reeling at 50 runs for 9 wickets in the massive chase, thanks to one of the outstanding spells from Bumrah.
Bumrah picked up 5 wickets for 7 runs in the second innings in the eight-over spell and ripped apart the top order. He swung the new ball both ways and there were no answers from the West Indies batsmen on how to play him.
It was a delight for all the Indian fans watching as Bumrah brought a different dimension to the Indian fast bowling attack. India won the test by 318 runs and registered their first win in ICC World Test Championship.
1.Bumrah’s 6 For 27 Against West Indies, Jamaica 2019
Bumrah picked up 6 wickets for 27 runs in his 12 over spell and it was the best figures for him in the ICC World Test Championship too. He picked up one wicket in the second innings when the game was already done and dusted and India won the test by 257 runs comfortably. It was total dominance from the Indian quicks and the trio of Bumrah alongside Ishant and Shami seemed to trouble any batting lineup in the world.
