Kolkata Knight Riders haven’t been at their best until the IPL 2021 was suspended and apart from some individual performances at times, they are lacking efforts as a team. Kolkata might be happy that the big break ahead of the second leg in September is the need of the hour and they need to come up with better performances.

They are currently placed seventh in the table with just two wins in seven games and they desperately need some inspiration for a turnaround. With the England and New Zealand players not likely to be available for the second leg, this could also be a blessing in disguise for them to pick the eleven according to the balance of the side. Eoin Morgan:

Eoin Morgan is the current skipper of the England limited-overs team and is highly unlikely to be available by September when the IPL resumes in UAE. Morgan was handed over the captaincy of the Kolkata Knight Riders team in the midway of 2020 IPL and he has been good at times.

However, this season has been very poor for him and it has resulted in the team’s success too. Morgan could manage just 92 runs in the 7 games he played which is way below his standards and it is not going to help his future in IPL too. If he isn’t available for the 2nd leg, Dinesh Karthik might just captain again for the franchise given that he has a lot of experience.

Tim Seifert:

Tim Seifert hasn’t played an IPL game yet and he has been on the sidelines for the last two years now. The dashing wicket-keeping batsman was picked up as a backup option for Dinesh Karthik and with four strong overseas contingents in the side already, it was always going to be difficult for him to get into the playing XI.

Kolkata Knight Riders have struggled to get consistent starts from the top order and Seifert could have got just made the difference into the playing XI for the Kolkata Knight Riders. He is an explosive opener and has played 35 T20 internationals for New Zealand. Kolkata Knight Riders will be hoping that he will be available when the IPL 2021 resumes.

Lockie Ferguson:

The Tall New Zealand fast bowler can generate serious pace and he could have been the X factor for the Kolkata Knight Riders side if he was picked up in the playing XI. He did not get a single game this season and has been waiting in the wings with the balance of the side not allowing him. The UAE wickets do suit him a lot and he would have been a handful.

Ferguson picked up 6 wickets in 5 games in the last edition and he is an impact bowler always. He tends to hit the bat hard with his pace and picks up wickets regularly. He is part of the New Zealand side in all the formats and is unlikely to make it when IPL resumes.
